The Namtha river is the largest river in the province of Luang Namtha and provides excellent kayaking thrills year-round. More exciting than the Namha river, great for avid kayakers wanting something less tame!

DAY 1
KAYAK/RAFTING
Departure: 9:00 am

TIMETABLE
Morning
We meet at the Discovering Laos office for 9:00am. Our tuk-tuk service will drop us off at the start of the Namtha river. Following some basic instruction on kayaking techniques and safety we begin paddling on the downriver. After 2 hours kayaking we stop off at Sop Tud village of the Lantan people. After meeting the local people and learning about their culture and way of life we head back to our kayaks and re-join the river.
Midday
After tackling a series of exciting rapids, we stop off at a serene location on the riverbank for a well-earned Lao picnic lunch. Time for a water-flight.
Afternoon
Back on the river the current takes us by minority villages for some exploration. Soon after the current quickens and we paddle on through yet more rapids, set against a backdrop of outstanding natural beauty. By 3-4.00pm we reach the village of Houay Leuat, a charming settlement of the Khmu people.
Evening
After meeting the locals and taking a tour of the village, take time to relax, go for a refreshing swim in the river, or explore the local area. A traditional Lao dinner will be served, after which relax at your eco-lodge or homestay or spend a few hours socialising
DAY 2
TREKKING

Return: 4-5:00 pm (Discovering Laos)

TIMETABLE
Morning
Wake up the sounds of the jungle and daily village life with a hot drink and a tasty Lao breakfast. After breakfast at around 10:00 am we begin hiking on the trail up through hills enveloped in groves of bamboo. Enjoy the tranquil hike listening to the magical sounds of the rainforest.
Midday
As lunch time approaches you are joined by a guide
from one of the local villages. Watch and learn as your guides collect resources from the jungle for an authentic Lao lunch using traditional cooking techniques.
Afternoon
Back on the river through an alternating landscape of exquisitely cultivated lands and dense tropical jungle. Before long we reach the beautifully farmed hillsides of Hat Yong village .From there we hop on a tuk-tuk for an invigorating ride back to Luang Namtha, reaching the Discovering Laos office by approximately 3-4.00pm

The price varies according to the number of participants and time of year. But will always decrease as more visitors book the same tour!
