1 day kayak + 1 day trek namhTa river
Two days (one night) trip down the waters of the impressive Namtha river and along jungle paths leading to hidden minority villages. The combination of kayaking and hiking guides you through the stunning natural scenery and lost settlements of Namha National Protected Area and its surroundings. Keep your eyes open, listen attentively and get ready to feel the pulse of the tropical rainforests.

DAY 1 - KAYAK
09:00. Meeting point at the office. 30 minutes ride by tuk- tuk to the kayaking starting point.
10:00. 5-6 hours kayaking. Basic instructions on kayaking techniques and safety are shortly followed by paddling at the mythical Namtha river—the biggest and most important water artery of Luang Namtha province. After two hours of kayaking you take a refreshing break meeting the Lantan people at Sop Tud village. An hour later, a bunch of exciting rapids makes way for lunch and Lao picnic at the river bank. In the afternoon the current brings you to several Khamu villages.
04:00. Getting to Houay Leuat village – a small and charming Khamu settlement. Take a rest, swim in the river and/or have a walk around and learn more about the unique local way of life. Sleeping in an eco-lodge.
DAY 2 - TREKKING & PIC NIC
09:00. Waking up and breakfast.
10:00. 3-4 hours hike and 300 meters of gradual to steep elevation. The trail runs almost exclusively through serene bamboo grooves.
12:30. Lunch. A guide from the local communities accompanies you and helps you collect jungle plants that you afterward cook in a bamboo cane using traditional techniques. A brief and tasty introduction to tropical bushcraft and a memorable picnic.
02:00. The trek finishes at the cultivated hill sides of Hat Yong village. From there it is an hour ride by tuk-tuk back to the office.
